The Exhibition

Heather Cline
Populating Veduta - Contemporary Cityscapes
An Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Regina
October 20 to
November 21, 2010
In this exhibition, artist Heather Cline has taken the 18 century 'Veduta'  (birdseye view) genre and adapted it to the 21 century right here in Regina.  Unlike historical cityscapes where people have traditionally played a minor role, these paintings focus on the social history of a community.

This body of work was launched with a performance collaboration between Cline and performance artist Michelle Sereda in 2009 at an installation entitled 'The Office for Identity Collection'.  The performance included a panoramic film shoot of the Cathedral Neighborhood documenting some of the people who live, work, and play in the area. Cline also conducted
audio and video interviews, collecting the stories that became the basis for this show.  Using the film, Cline translated her research into the community - both past and present - into this series of ‘historic’ paintings and companion video shorts that capture the lives of everyday people in Regina.
